Homestead Exemption (65 and over): For seniors who are eligible within the assessment year, it entitles the homeowner to a reduction for the current assessed valuation by $4000 for owner occupied buildings only. Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze: For those 65 or older having an annual total household income $55,000 or less and having lived in their home since January 1st of the year for which they are applying. Circuit Breaker Assistance Program: For those 65 years of age or older, or for the totally disabled 16 years of age or older or for a widow or widower who was 63 or 64 years of age before your spouse’s death if you and your spouse were eligible. This is a yearly grant for relief from property or mobile home taxes and rent or nursing home charges. There are income limitations. You may also qualify for a license plate discount. Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Deferral: For those 65 or older to defer part or all of the property taxes on their personal residence. There are income and residency requirements and it must be filed between January 1 and February 28 yearly. Applications are available from the Treasurer/Collector.
